A woman has died after getting into difficulty while swimming with her family at a beach in the Western Isles.
The holidaymaker was swimming off the west coast of Harris with her husband and three sons on Monday evening.
A local resident alerted the Coastguard after seeing the family in difficulty at the beach at Traigh Mhor at around 7.40pm and the unconscious woman was airlifted to Western Isles Hospital where she died.
The father and two of the children were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Their condition is not known.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At approximately 8.05pm police received a report from HM Coastguard in relation to a maritime incident at Borve beach on the Isle of Harris.
“A woman was flown to the Western Isles Hospital where she sadly died.”
