Madonna has sparked controversy for posting a video of her teenage son on social media in a response to racism.
David Banda, 14, danced to Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Care About Us, from what looked like the star’s kitchen, in the clip.
Madonna said the performance was a tribute to George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who died after pleading for air as a white police officer knelt on his neck.
“Brutal murder travels around the world my son David dances to honour and pay tribute to George and his family and all acts of racism and discrimination that happen on a daily basis in America,” she wrote on Twitter.
Some called the video “beautiful” and “spectacular” but it did not go down well with everyone.
@indigogloves wrote: “I really appreciate you for allowing your son to dance away the racism for us.”
And another wrote: “There are many things you need to do and this wasn’t one of them.”
Madonna has raised eyebrows with her videos on social media recently, with one delivered from her bath saying Covid-19 was “the great equaliser”.
