Peru drug smugglers Melissa Reid and Michaella McCollum sentenced

Two British women who were caught smuggling drugs in Peru have been sentenced.

Melissa Reid, from Lenzie, near Glasgow, and Michaella McCollum, from Northern Ireland, have each been given six years and eight months in prison after being caught trying to smuggle cocaine with a value of £1.5 million.

The pair faced had already spent more than four months in jail before their appearance in court in Lima on Tuesday.

Reid and McCollum have claimed they were forced to smuggle the 11kg of cocaine that was discovered in their luggage earlier this year.
