Four people were killed and 13 injured in a black weekend on Scotland’s roads.
One person died and five were hurt, one critically, in an accident on the A92 Dundee/Kirkcaldy in Fife in the early hours of Sunday.
Meanwhile two pedestrians died on Saturday.
One, Liam Connelly (23) from Dundee, was involved in a collision with a lorry on the outskirts of the city at 1pm as he crossed the A90 (see separate report).
The other, a 31-year-old man, died when he was involved in a collision with a white car as he walked on the southbound carriageway of the A82 near Luss, Loch Lomond, at 10.30pm.
And one motorcyclist was killed and three injured in separate accidents.
The A92 accident occurred near Luthrie junction.
The road was closed for several hours as the scene was cleared and investigations took place.Fife victimsIt is understood all those involved are from central Fife, although no names have yet been released.
Police said the accident involved a green Ford Focus and a blue MG and occurred around 5.40am.
The fatality, a middle-aged man, was driving one of the cars.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
The most seriously injured victim was said to be critically ill, and undergoing surgery at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.WreckageEmergency services were called to the scene, and firefighters freed two people from the wreckage.
As the investigation continues, the police say they would like to speak to anyone who might have seen the accident or been in the area at the time.
Diversions were put in place while the road was closed.
It reopened early in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, five casualties were taken to Ninewells Hospital after a two-vehicle smash on the outskirts of Dundee on Sunday morning.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment as they freed one man trapped in his car.
One lane of the southbound A90 near Longforgan was closed for two hours as debris was cleared and accident investigators examined the scene of the 7.50am crash.
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said, “We were on the scene for quite some time and had to cut off the roof of one of the cars to remove a casualty from within.
“Two fire and rescue appliances were in attendance, along with the heavy rescue unit.
“The casualty who had been trapped was tended to on the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that five people had been rushed to Ninewells after the incident.
“They were suffering from various injuries, but none is thought to be in a life-threatening condition,” he added.Motorcycle accidentsThe fatal motorcycle accident took place on the A82 at Firkin Point in Inverbeg, Dunbartonshire, at 10am on Sunday.
And back in Fife last night a motorcyclist was seriously injured when he came off his bike in West Wemyss, near the Belvedere Hotel, shortly before 5.30. He was rushed to Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, with head injuries.
A police spokesman said no other vehicle was involved.
Also last night a motorcyclist was rushed to Ninewells after he lost control of his bike on the B966 near Glenfarg.
The incident occurred close to the Bein Inn shortly before 6pm.
The extent of the biker’s injuries have not been revealed, but it is believed they are not life threatening.
Meanwhile on Saturday morning a biker thought to be from the St Andrews area was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta on the main Cupar to Dairsie road at around 10.30am.
Traffic was disrupted while the man who had been thrown from his machine was treated and the scene was cleared.
The motorcyclist, who was conscious, was taken to Ninewells with leg and wrist injuries.
