Taylor Swift has revealed that she adopted her new cat from the set of her latest music video after confirming his name is Benjamin Button.
Swift first announced she added a third cat to her family in an Instagram post, writing: “And then there were three…”
In a subsequent Instagram live video with Panic! At The Disco singer Brendon Urie, her collaborator on new single ME!, she said: “He was just a cute kitten who didn’t have a home.
“They did a programme where they try to get kittens adopted by putting them in commercials and stuff and god it worked, I fell in love.
“His handler said ‘Do you want to hold him real quick to get familiar with him?’ and I was like ‘I really do’.
“She handed me this tiny cat and he just starts purring and he looks at me like, ‘You’re my mom, and we’re going to live together’.
“I looked at Brendon and he’s like, ‘You’re going to get the cat aren’t you?’ “
“When I started holding him I was obviously in love with him and his handler was like ‘He doesn’t have a home’ and he looked at me like ‘Adopt me, please’.”
She added: “Benjamin Button, he’s the best boy, he’s the best little guy.”
In the video, Urie can be seen producing Benjamin Button from the jacket of his suit and handing him to Swift.
In another Instagram video of her cradling the cat in her arms, Swift said: “I’ve never personally encountered a cat that preferred to carried as if they are a human baby but that is what is happening here, this is how he prefers to travel.”
Benjamin Button joins the singer’s other cats Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, named for the Law & Order: SVU and Grey’s Anatomy characters played by Mariska Hargitay and Ellen Pompeo respectively, who also feature in the ME! music video.
Swift has confirmed the title of both the album and next single are contained in the video, but no-one has yet found them.
She wrote on Twitter: “So… the new album title is actually revealed somewhere in the video AND so is the title of the second single, but I haven’t seen people finding them yet… #MEmusicvideo.”
Swift, 29, added two detective emojis. Fans replied to the post with their suggestions, with a popular choice for the album title Awesome.
