Taraji P Henson has asked her fans to pray for director John Singleton while he is in intensive care after suffering a stroke.
The film-maker, known for movies including Boyz N The Hood, Shaft and 2 Fast 2 Furious, fell ill on April 17.
Henson, who has been collaborating with Singleton on a movie based on the murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African American boy who was brutally killed by two white men in Mississippi in 1955, said she had visited him with fellow star Tyrese Gibson.
She wrote on Instagram: “Visited you today. Me and @tyrese prayed so hard over you.
“You heard my voice and jumped up. I HAVE HOPE AND FAITH BECAUSE I KNOW THAT #GODIS.
“Keep praying EVERYBODY for our beloved @johnsingleton.”
Los Angeles-born Singleton, 51, often deals with themes of inner-city violence in his films.
His 1991 film Boyz N The Hood earned him an Academy Award nomination for best director, making him the first African American nominee and the youngest ever.
