Maui Memorial Medical Centre spokeswoman Carol Clark said Jana Lutteropp is in very critical condition. Ms Lutteropp was snorkelling up to 100 yards off Palauea Beach in Makena when the shark bit off her arm on August 14. Bystanders on shore heard the 20-year-old scream. A California high school teacher swam out to bring her to shore. It is not known what type of shark bit Ms Lutteropp. State officials say witnesses did not see it. There was another shark attack in Hawaii on Sunday. A 16-year-old surfer suffered injuries on both legs after a shark bit him south-east of Hilo.
