Trader and charity activist Wilma McPherson

Broughty Ferry trader Wilma McPherson, known for her work for numerous charities, died suddenly while on a visit to London. She was 72.

Mrs McPherson and her husband Ronald opened the R. S. McPherson pharmacy, in Gray Street in 1974.

Born in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, she attended Ellon Academy and qualified as a teacher of domestic science in Aberdeen in 1959.

Mrs McPherson married her pharmacist husband in 1962, and they moved to Broughty Ferry in 1974.

A member of the Cancer Research committee in Aberdeen, she was a member of the Dundee local committee and was president in 1976.

She was a founder member of the Act IV charity theatre group in which she held many posts.

Mrs McPherson was an active member of Broughty Ferry Traders Association and initiated its charity bridge drive.

A long-term member of St Stephen’s and West Church in Broughty Ferry, she organised many fund-raising events-including bridge drives.

She was also collected for Christian Aid.

Mrs McPherson is survived by her husband, twins Euan, a senior manager with Lloyds Bank, and Kenneth, owner of R. S. McPherson, daughter Jayne, a partner in Merchants Hair, and by four grandchildren.

Her busy life will be celebrated at a service in St Stephen’s and West Church on Monday.
