Former Portmoak ploughing champion of champions Robert Elder has died.
Mr Elder (84) was renowned for his ploughing skills throughout the 50s, winning the annual Portmoak competition in 1950, 1951, 1954 and 1955 before being crowned as champion of champions in 1956.
Born at Wester Gospetry, near Kinross, he was a farm worker until becoming a farmer at Newton of Balcanquhal, where he remained until his retirement.
Other than farming, his great passion was Scottish traditional culture, especially the box and fiddle, and the poetry of Burns.
He married his late wife Maisie Scott in 1947 and they had four children Mary, Margaret, Roberta and Sandy as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest at Arngask cemetery on May 12.
