Former Dundee bookmaker John Brady has died at the age of 81 after a short illness.
Raised in the Coldside area, Mr Brady attended SS Peter and Paul’s Primary School and Lawside Academy before working with Dundee cobbler Malones.
In 1947 he began two years’ national service in Cyprus. After leaving the army, he began working for Brady’s Bookmakers, which he ran with his father and three brothers.
The company expanded to five betting shops throughout Dundee and Mr Brady continued working with the family business until it was sold in 1988.
In retirement he lived in Clepington Road.
Mr Brady played for several amateur and junior football teams including Dunkeld Amateurs.
