Angus businessman Jimmy Doig, who owned Doig’s furniture store in Forfar, has died aged 83.
Born in the town in 1926, he attended North School in Forfar and Forfar Academy.
After a brief period working at the family business, he joined the Royal Artillery shortly after the second world war and served in both India and Germany.
On returning to Britain in 1949, he married Elma Whitton and recommenced work in the furniture store, founded by his grandfather and located on the town’s Little Causeway, and only retired around 10 years ago.
His funeral will take place on Thursday at the Strathmore Rest Rooms and thereafter at Forfar Cemetery.
Mr Doig is survived by his wife and children Kenneth (58) and Pamela (56).
