Mrs Thomson passed away on Friday in the company of her family and staff at the care home. Formerly of Corso Street, Mrs Thomson was born in Glasgow and was the oldest of nine children. At the age of 16 and unemployed, she walked the 87 miles to Dundee to find work. There she met and married Hugh, a Dundonian, and the couple had four children. Hugh was killed in Italy during the Second World War, leaving her to bring up the family herself. She was still working in her 70s, helping out at the former Angus Hotel, and helped out with the babysitting for her family well into her 80s. She celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at the Friary in Dundee in December 2009, which was attended by five generations of her family.
