Mr Ritchie was born and raised at Littleton Farm in the Carse of Gowrie and educated at Dundee High School. After leaving school he was called up and commissioned as an officer at Sandhurst and saw active service with the Royal Tank Regiment in Burma. Demobbed in 1947, he completed a law degree at Edinburgh University before starting his legal career with Dundee solicitors Shiell & Small. He became a partner in Edward Cowan & Co in the late 1950s, with the firm amalgamating with J&J Ogilvie in 1974. Mr Ritchie continued in general practice with the merged firm of Ogilvie Cowan & Co and was appointed as an Honorary Sheriff in 1988. He retired in 2003. A keen sportsman, he was a member of Barry Golf Club and, in his younger days, a stalwart of Rossie Priory Cricket Club. He is survived by his wife Doris, four children and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Monikie Parish Church tomorrow at 2 pm.
