Attilio (Teal) Dellanzo, a former Dundee fish and chip shop owner, hotelier and businessman, has died. He was 79.
He was born in 1934 in the home of his grandparents, Maria and Domenico Delnevo, above their restaurant business The Venice Caf in Thorter Row.
After attending Lawside Academy, he joined the family fish and chip shop beside the railway bridge in Lochee.
Mr Dellanzo did his National Service in Germany as an army dog handler before returning to the family business.
He married in 1956 and moved with his wife Mari and baby daughter Elayne to Inverbervie where he opened a restaurant and ice cream shop.
Here his son Anthony and daughter Tielia were born and he stayed for the next six years, with another addition to the family, Marc, born as he returned to Dundee.
Mr and Mrs Dellanzo then opened a fish and chip shop in Cleghorn Street.
At this time, Dundee Repertory Theatre was nearby and they would often keep their doors open late to provide fish suppers for the actors finishing the evening performance.
Mr Dellanzo joined the Stakis organisation in 1972 and ran the Olde World Inn Steakhouse in Seagate before becoming manager of the Kellyfield Hotel.
Around 1978, he opened his own hotel on Constitution Road and was joined by his wife, daughter and son.
In the early 1980s, he was asked to join McLeish Brothers to drive forward their new frozen food business, Top Hat Foods.
After retiring, Mr Dellanzo enjoyed travelling, including a visit to the remote mining town of Jerome in Arizona where his father was born.
A hardworking man used to being busy, he accepted the call from a family friend to do a few hours behind the bar in the Queen Street Pub in Forfar, helping out over the busy Christmas period.
This became a job that lasted for 10 years until he finally hung up his apron at the age of 76.
Mr Dellanzo is survived by his wife and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
