Former Perth and Kinross police officer Hamish Lowe has died aged 51.
The Bridge of Earn resident, who latterly worked as a court officer at Perth Sheriff Court, passed away on May 24 after a short illness.
Born in Crieff to George and Jean Lowe, he was educated at the town’s primary and secondary schools and also attended Perth High for a short period.
On leaving education he became a building inspector in Stirling but in 1984 he decided to embark on a change of career and joined Tayside Police, training at Tulliallan College.
Mr Lowe was stationed at various locations across western division, including Crieff, Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Kinross.
He married Moira in 1988 and they had two daughters, Nicola and Louise.
He retired from the force in 2010 and worked at the Perth Procurator Fiscal’s Office for nine months before starting at Perth Sheriff Court as a bar officer.
A popular member of staff at the Tay Street court building, Mr Lowe’s death will be felt by many.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher paid tribute, saying: ”He will be sadly missed by everyone at the court. His experience in the police force was always an asset which he employed successfully to the advantage of all in the building, and we will remember his wry sense of humour and ability to manage some of the more awkward customers without fuss.”
Outside of work, Mr Lowe’s main passion was restoring vintage tractors. He also enjoyed playing the bagpipes.
He was the secretary of Brig in Bloom for a number of years and took great pride in his home village.
A funeral service will take place at Dunbarney Church, Bridge of Earn, at 11.15am on Friday and thereafter at Dunbarney Cemetery. Those in attendance are asked to wear a touch of tartan.
Donations will be collected for the Cornhill Macmillan Centre in Perth.
