Former Dundee teacher Frederick “Fred” McGinty has died aged 84.
He was a technical teacher at St Michael’s RC Junior School before transferring to St Saviour’s RC High School.
The father of three retired in 1988, aged 62 years old.
Mr McGinty grew up in Hunter Street, West Port, as the youngest of six children.
Aged just 14 he worked as a labourer in a local mill where he stayed for around two years, then securing a plumbing apprenticeship.
He qualified at the age of 22 and married Betty shortly afterwards.
In 1951, they emigrated to Adelaide in Australia, where Mr McGinty established a plumbing business.
The couple had their first child Eileen and returned to their native Dundee in 1955.
During his retirement, Mr McGinty took up bowls and joined Craigie Bowling Club. He was also a member of the Dundee Indoor Bowling Club and played only days before his death.
Mr McGinty is survived by Betty, children Eileen, Fred and Moira, and several grandchildren.
