A Dundee man who earned the top award in Scouting has died at the age of 79.
Robert Duff was born and raised in Dundee, attending Rockwell School. After leaving school, he worked in the office of Caledon but later joined what was then known as the Hydro Electric Board, where he worked until his eventual retirement.
However, he is best known in the city for his long Scouting career one that began when he was eight, and even introduced him to the woman who would become his wife.
Mr Duff joined the 12th Maryfield Pack as a Cub Scout and became a Scoutmaster when he was 21.
His wife Jean was also involved in Scouting and the couple met when she attended a course on semaphore he was teaching. They married in 1956.
Mr Duff eventually reached the position of assistant area commissioner for leader training and remained an honorary Scout leader even after stepping back from an active role in the organisation.
His long-service was rewarded with a series of honours. He received a long-service award, the Silver Acorn and a bar for exceptional service.
In 1988 he was awarded the Silver Wolf, the highest possible award in Scouting.
His survived by his wife Jean, children Brian, Roy, Bruce, Bob and Heather, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
