Auchterhouse dairy farmer and well known curler John Wallace has died at the age of 55, following a short illness.
Mr Wallace attended Auchterhouse Primary School and then Dundee High School before gaining an honours degree in agriculture at Edinburgh University.
He returned home to farm with his father Don and brother Robert at Pitpointie and their other farms in the Auchterhouse and Strathmartine area.
Dairy cows were his favourite enterprise and he had a real passion for the management of the Pitpointie herd. Even in recent weeks, when he was very ill, he continued to focus on the farm and its wellbeing.
He was a former member of South Angus JAC where he met his wife-to-be Sheila. Their first home was at South Fallaws, Strathmartine.
Apart from family life his later leisure time was very much taken up with sporting activities, many of which he excelled at. He played rugby in his youth and was a lifelong member of Alyth Golf Club.
Curling, however, was the sport with which he was most associated. Mr Wallace was president of Pitkerro Curling Club twice and was treasurer last season. A Dundee Football Club supporter, he enjoyed watching all sports.
Mr Wallace is survived by his mother Margaret, his wife and four children, John who is a doctor, Linda and Susan, who are both qualified pharmacologists, and Jillian, who is a primary school teacher.
His funeral is at 12.15pm on Thursday at Strathmartine Parish Church followed by an interment at Auchterhouse Cemetery.
