Elvira (Vera) Murray, a much-respected figure in the Angus licensed trade, has died at the age of 77.
Born in Montrose, Mrs Murray then moved to Broughty Ferry where her father was a master baker with Wallace’s.
The family returned to Angus where her parents took over the Bluebell Cafe just off Montrose’s High Street, where Mrs Murray also worked.
Mrs Murray’s parents also ran the West End Hotel and she and husband Ronnie then became mine hosts from 1969 to 1974, before buying the Albert Bar at the corner of New Wynd, where they remained until 1982.
Mrs Murray was the first president of Montrose Ladies Licensed Trade Association and in the role helped raised considerable sums for charity through a host of events.
Painting, crocheting and knitting were also special interests.
Mrs Murray is survived by her husband, daughters Rhonda and Julie and five grandchildren.
Her funeral service is to take place at 1.30pm on Thursday at Emslie Collier’s chapel of rest in Montrose, thereafter to Parkgrove Crematorium at Friockheim.
