Ccoaltown of Wemyss resident Jim Bisset, who has been described as a “stalwart of the village,” has died at the age of 72.
He helped raise funds for a memorial to five West Wemyss residents who died in a 1941 sea mine tragedy.
Friend Jake Drummond said, “Jim was very helpful during our memorial fund-raising, selling raffle tickets and promoting the cause, and made many trips to the quarry at Denfind, whatever the weather, where Bruce (Walker) was working on the memorial stone.
“He’ll be sadly missed as a stalwart of the village who was ‘aye on the go’ and was always doing a good turn somewhere.”
Mr Bisset started work in the pits before National Service. He became a lorry driver and worked for Barclay Brothers until retiring.
It is understood Mr Bisset died suddenly at the local bowling green, where he was a dedicated greenkeeper.
He was a member of Coaltown of Wemyss Bowling Club for over 50 years. His other interests included gardening, caravanning and walking.
Mr Bisset is survived by his wife Sheila, son Alistair and brother Annan.
