An Angus woman whose case prompted her family to lobby the Scottish Parliament for better care for young physically disabled people has died at the age of 41.
Linda Milne, formerly of Monikie and Carnoustie, had been a resident at South Grange Nursing Home in Monifieth for the past nine years.
A former pupil of Mattocks Primary School and Carnoustie High School, she went on to become a popular volunteer at Age Concern Dundee in Broughty Ferry for 10 years.
However she suffered from arthritis of the spine and as her condition deteriorated she had to give up the work she loved and latterly had to use a wheelchair to get around.
She moved into Riverside View Nursing Home in Dundee but was forced to leave when owners Southern Cross Healthcare ended its registration with Tayside Health Board for the care of young physically disabled people.
Concerned at the apparent lack of care home provision for people in Linda’s position, her sister Carol Main and mother Ella Milne collected 1200 names on a petition calling for more government funding which they handed to then Angus MSP Andrew Welsh to be presented to the public petitions committee at Holyrood.
Mrs Milne paid tribute to the care Linda received at South Grange.
“That was her home and she was very happy there,” she said.
Carol said her family wanted to thank all the carers and medical staff who had helped Linda over the years.
She added, “She fought a very brave battle right to the end.”
