One of Dundee’s oldest residents has died at the age of 104.
Mary Ann (Nan) Hannah, who was the eldest of three children, was born in Dura Street and attended Morgan Academy.
She wanted to become a nurse and trained in Montrose. She later moved to Glasgow’s Gorbals area to work as a midwife.
She received help from an unlikely source in completing her day-to-day duties. Gangs of youths regularly escorted her through the often dangerous streets to ensure she could safely reach her patients.
She returned to Dundee in the 1950s and spent the rest of her career working at the venereal disease clinic on Constitution Street.
She worked there until she retired at 65 but Ms Hannah continued to demonstrate her love for nursing for many years.
She was regularly seen in the Bonnybank and Kings Street area, where she lived, helping people in a discreet and professional manner.
She moved into sheltered housing in later life and also to the Pitkerro Care Centre, having never married.
Ms Hannah was known for her love of Scottish music and was a keen traveller and animal lover.
