One of Perth’s foremost businessmen has died after suffering a heart attack while on holiday in Spain.
Born and brought up in the town, Jim Adamson created one of the UK’s top independent media production companies and was named Great Scot of the Year four years ago.
Mr Adamson left school with little or no qualifications and was confined to a wheelchair following a shooting accident while serving as a teenager in the Territorial Army.
He overcame that challenge however to form Speakeasy Productions in 1993. Within a few short years, the company counted RBS, Stagecoach, SSE, BAE Systems, the NHS and the government among its high-profile clients.
After suffering some ill health, he became company chairman in 2010 after passing control over to his fellow directors.
The 62-year-old was involved with numerous organisations and was a director of both Perth College and Horsecross Arts.
He was also a member of the Tayside Children’s Panel and past chairman of the Scottish Spinal Injuries Association.
Perthshire Chamber of Commerce chief executive Vicki Unite paid to tribute to Mr Adamson, saying: ”This loss will be felt throughout Perthshire and the business community. Jim was a valuable part of numerous organisations as well as running one of the most innovative businesses in the area.
”The chamber had the honour of naming Speakeasy Productions as its Perthshire Business of the Year at our Business Star Awards in 2008. We are sincerely sorry to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with his family and those close to him.”
