Dundee businessman and coal merchant Thomas Martin has died at the age of 71.
Mr Martin, known as Tam, ran the Tom Martin and Sons coal merchants on Brewery Lane.
He is also remembered for his involvement in organising the seasonal workforce for “the berries” fruit picking on Angus farms in the 1970s.
He was born in Port Glasgow, and his family moved to Dundee when he was a child and he attended St Michael’s school before embarking on his career in the world of business.
He married Mary in 1959 and became one of the city’s last coal merchants when he opened his premises in 1985 and ran it until retiring 20 years later.
Mr Martin, who loved tending to his allotment, died at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Dundee, on Friday after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, their children Thomas Jun, Rose, John, Danny and Denise, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
