Mr Moncrieff served in the army for 30 years and was mentioned in dispatches for gallant and distinguished services in Korea in 1953.

Born in 1929 to Lt Col Douglas and Doreen Moncrieff of Kinmouth, he attended Belhaven Hill School and Eton before going on to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, where he trained as an officer.

As well as Korea, his military career took him to Kenya, Singapore and Gibraltar from 1947 to 1977 and he was decorated a number of times.

Upon leaving, he returned to Kinmonth, near Perth, to manage the estate and farm and pursue his numerous other interests.

He was a patron of local charity Churches Action for the Homeless and Perth College, Scout Commissioner for Perth and Kinross and Ambassador for Girl Guiding and Commander of The Priory of Scotland of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.

A devoutly religious man, he was a member of St John’s Episcopal Church in Perth and immersed himself in church life.

Mr Moncrieff was also on the governing council of Glenalmond College and was a member of the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland Royal Company of Archers.

Ever active, he had a particular passion for mountain climbing scaling the Matterhorn and reaching Everest base camp in the late 70s were among his achievements. He was also a Munroist, completing all the 284 Munros in 2002 at the age of 73.

He met his wife, Sue, whilst ski-ing in Austria and they were married in London three years later.

They had two children, Andrew and Mary, and two grandchildren.
