A 93-year-old Dundee man, prominent in local bowling for years, has died in Ninewells Hospital.
Len Allen also spent many years working for an insurance group prior to his retiral in 1979.
He had been married to Helen for 67 years.
Born and brought up in Dundee, Mr Allen attended Morgan Academy. He trained as a marine engineer in the Caledon before joining the Merchant Navy.
War broke out on his first trip at sea, and after its conclusion he returned to Dundee and worked as an engineer in local firms before joining the insurance group Vulcan Boilers, working as an engineering surveyor.
He was transferred to Stockton-on-Tees before a move to Muchalls, near Stonehaven, in 1959.
Seven years later he was transferred back to his home city.
Mr Allen’s main hobby was bowling. He was an active member of Broughty Castle Bowling Club for years, was a past president and two-time club champion, and an honorary life member.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, five grand-children and four great-grandchildren.
