Cupar man George Illingworth, who was a livestock auctioneer for three decades, has died. He was 89.
George was born and brought up in Grantown-on-Spey and educated at Grantown Grammar.
He served in the navy for a short time towards the end of the Second World War.
While working as an auctioneer for Aberdeen and Northern Marts in Elgin, he met Elaine and the couple wed in the town in 1952.
They had two of their four children there before moving to Cupar in 1957, where George began working with Speedie Bros.
By the time he retired at 63, he had become the firm’s managing director.
Golf was one of George’s great passions, and he was a member of the Grantown-on-Spey, Elie, Royal and Ancient and New clubs and a past captain of the latter.
As well as Elaine, George leaves behind daughters Elaine and Nicola, son David, their spouses Rolf, Stephen and Hazel, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
