Fiona Hyslop offered an interesting insight into the Scottish Government’s V&A rescue mission.
“There has been a key driver to reduce prices but not to compromise on the project,” she told those few MSPs who bothered to turn up for Alex Johnstone’s Holyrood topical question session.
Ponder those words. Think about “reduce prices” in the context of a £31 million overspend.
Consider “not to compromise” while remembering the design we voted for was meant to be built in the River Tay but will now be landlocked.
Good thing the questions being asked focused on the project’s transparency. Essentially the line was: “Nothing to see here, everyone has been as open as possible and an independent inquiry would cause ‘uncertainty’ which could damage funding prospects.”
Utter rubbish. It was an open secret that costs were spiralling long before it was confirmed and honesty not opaqueness is what’s needed now.
