Many people in Courier Country need an off-roader. We have a lot of rural readers and our winters aren’t often kind.
So, while big 4x4s are maligned as Chelsea Tractors elsewhere, there is actually a strong case for them here.
And the good news is they’ve become more frugal and less polluting in recent years, as manufacturers work hard to improve efficiency.
But of course, there’s still room in the world for stuff that’s just outrageously bonkers.
And these two deliciously pointless cars fit the bill nicely.
Have a spare £90,000 to spend and a burning desire to get yourself, the family and pets from 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds?
Then the BMW X5 M and X6 M are the cars for you.
The superfast SUVs are the product of BMW’s high-performance M division.
Both feature a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and will be priced from £90,170 and £93,070 respectively.
The second-generation of BMW’s high-performance flagship SUVs pack a massive 567bhp and 750Nm of torque offering improvements of up to 10% in power, torque and outright pace, while lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20%.
When they arrive in showrooms next April they will take on equally bonkers rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes ML63 AMG.
Don’t expect supermini fuel economy. Both cars return around 25.4mpg and emit 258g/km of CO2.
However, given their incredible power and performance that isn’t a bad figure at all indeed BMW says it’s an improvement of more than 20% compared to the cars’ predecessors.
Both cars have styling upgrades to highlight their extra performance and dynamism. They arrive in dealerships on April 11 2015.
