The Dundee United players deserve a great deal of credit for the way they bounced back against Ross County from last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Celtic Park.
The heavy loss in the East End of Glasgow was unexpected to say the least after the convincing start the Tangerines had made to the campaign.
The game against a Staggies side still searching for their first point of the season, always looked on paper an ideal one for United to get back on track.
However, when County equalised with what was virtually their first real opportunity of the afternoon, Jackie McNamara’s men could have been forgiven for allowing a few doubts to creep in.
Instead, they stuck to their guns and secured the victory with Chris Erskine’s late winner.
It was no more than their overall play deserved, despite County boss Derek Adams’ claim that the Tangerines should have taken all three points away in a bag marked “swag”.
Next up for United is a trip to another side still looking for their first point, St Mirren.
Another win there before the international break would certainly consign the Celtic loss to the file marked “bad day at the office”.
