How many independence knife edges are there? At least a couple, according to two UK newspapers who have published polls in the last few days showing a major narrowing in Yes/No support.
The most recent YouGov survey shows the campaign to leave the United Kingdom needs only three more points to claim victory.
It uses the old trick of stripping out the don’t knows, which I’m not a fan of given these are the people who we are constantly being told will decide the result, but there is no getting away from a major rise in support for independence from 41% at the start of last month to 47% today.
Better Together will argue they are still in front but with their support dropping to 53%, it would seem that finally, after who knows how many false starts and ridiculous attempts to claim they had it, momentum is with Yes.
The SNP has a formidable election machine which is now swinging into action, aided by a groundswell of enthusiastic others.
Are we about to see a repeat of the 2011 Scottish parliament election, where the party was behind in the lead-up to but pulled off a dramatic turnaround in the final weeks and secured a historic outright majority?
That’s difficult to call. Knife edge indeed.
