Monifieth Eco Force’s Saturday morning beach clean threw up an oddity.
Volunteers used the the Our Monifieth Facebook page to ask if anyone could identify a skull found on the beach near the Blue Seaway park.
Despite a number of serious and not so serious suggestions from commenters, the creature has not yet been confirmed.
One commenter even suggested it looked like an alligator.
Stewart Burns from Shanwell Wildlife Rescue Trust also took the opportunity to ask people to report any such finds.
He said: “If anyone comes across anything like a skull, decaying body, meat, seal etc to contact Scottish Marine Animal Strandings Scheme who will investigate or advise on the next step forward.
“By reporting this we can all get a better understanding of what’s happening.”
