Those flint-hearted assessors of sporting probability, also known as bookmakers, have already decided there is not much point in Raith Rovers turning up at Easter Road for the Ramsdens Cup Final against Rangers.
One leading firm has installed the Glasgow side as 1/6 favourites to lift the trophy for the uninitiated, that means for every £6 you bet, an outright win for Ally McCoist’s side would net just a £1 profit in return.
Those though are ridiculous odds and in my humble opinion an insult not just to Raith but the Championship in general.
Rangers have swept all before them in League One this season but Rovers will provide a much stiffer test.
The Glasgow outfit also have David Templeton and Andy Little out through injury, while there are doubts over Ian Black, Nicky Law and most importantly, Jon Daly.
Albion Rovers from League Two also showed that this Rangers side is far from a vintage one when they came agonisingly close to winning at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup quarter-final in February.
In the previous round of the same competition, Raith beat Premiership Hibs in a memorable game at this Sunday’s Ramsdens final venue. Yes, if Rangers play to their full potential on Sunday, roared on by a huge support inside Easter Road, then they should win.
However, Raith relish the role of underdog and have match winners within their squad including the likes of Calum Elliot, John Baird, Joe Cardle and Grant Anderson.
Everyone connected with the Kirkcaldy club will be hoping that for once, the bookies have been hopelessly wide of the mark with their odds and to paraphrase a famous gaffe, “there will be dancing in the streets of Raith” on Sunday night.
