Walking through he dining-room at Dundee’s Budapest training centre, I noticed that there were tables laid with cutlery for another team in residence there.
On closer inspection, I saw that the club banner at the top of one table was for CFR Cluj.
And right on cue, who should walk in with the rest of the Romanian side’s players than none other than former Raith and St Johnstone striker Gregory Tade, who left Saints in a surprise move to join Cluj two summers ago.
As ever, when I went over to say hello, the big Frenchman was only too happy to chat and he admitted that he is still delighted for Saints after they won the William Hill Scottish Cup playing against Dundee United at Celtic Park in May.
He said: “It is good to see the Dundee players here and I know a couple of them like Iain Davidson and Willie Dyer.
“We are also being put through our paces at what is a great facility.
“We are due to play a game and I can’t wait for the season to start. I am really looking to make my mark.
“I am still delighted for my former side St Johnstone winning the Scottish Cup.
“It was a fantastic achievement for everyone connected with the club, especially the fans.
“It is their first major honour and I know how much it will have meant to Saints.
“I was on the phone to Nigel (Hasselbaink) afterwards and I was so pleased for him picking up that medal.
“Our season finished just after the Cup Final which was unfortunate. If it had finished two days beforehand, I would definitely have tried to get to Celtic Park to see the victory in person.”
