Salmond row with Robinson to dominate debate

Salmond row with Robinson to dominate debate

Thanks to all those who commented on last Friday afternoon’s Letters’ Editor Blog.

There is a lively letters’ bag coming up in print on Tuesday morning.

Here’s a couple of headlines to whet your appetites V&A costs may soar to £100 million; Project fear stereotypes.

Two farming experts take the Scottish Government to task over its stance on GM crops while Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser warns Scots electricity bill payers will be hit hard because of SNP policy.

I noted that a couple of commentators believe I have a big drawer full of unpublished letters from SNP supporters.

I am afraid not but I do agree that we get more letters from no voters than yes voters at the moment.

It wasn’t always this way. In the years before and during the referendum campaign the nationalists frequently took the argument to the unionists.

Since the General Election, the nationalists have been backsliding a bit when it comes to letter writing.

Perhaps, after a campaign in which they secured 56 out of 59 MPs, they believe they deserve a break.

Or maybe they are keeping their powder dry for the 2016 Holyrood campaign.

The political landscape and the nature of correspondence we receive has changed markedly since the General Election.

Constitutional matters once dominated debate. Now the focus is on domestic matters such as policing, education and the NHS.

I have just had a look at the likely contenders for Wednesday and it looks like it will be dominated by our columnist Alex Salmond’s comments about Nick Robinson of the BBC.
