Jim Murphy completely reshuffled his Holyrood pack but the most interesting thing to emerge was that he is going to base himself in the Scottish Parliament.
He will operate out of a hot desk space formerly occupied by Labour strategists and has secured a permanent visitor pass.
What this means is he is free to roam and check up on his MSPs but he cannot hold official events, be it meetings or press calls, within the building.
The reason for this is obvious. It tackles head on the potential PR problem of being seen to run Scottish Labour from London. He’s at the heart of the operation.
That means he’s not doing his taxpayer-funded day job as an MP, though. Murphy missed a Westminster vote on equal pay because he was announcing his shadow cabinet.
Moving north is smart from a leadership point of view but it creates potential pitfalls.
