Yomp.
The very word conjures images of weary drudgery. Of seemingly endless toil. Of painful, oh-so-painful, blister-inducing slog.
And that is what we have gone through to bring you the results of Saturday’s stroll through the Perthshire countryside, enjoyed by hundreds of smiling daytrippers.
That’s right, we’ve had a team chronicling every nimble-footed person who danced across the heather and grass during the Cateran Yomp, just so they could see their name in The Courier.*
The selfless few completed their task in the dead of night following a day of gut-wrenching, energy-sapping and back-breaking work which has taken a short term physical toll and incurred an even longer term mental cost.
The Yompers went through something similar, we’re led to believe.
Also in Tuesday’s Courier we detail the beautiful story of a postcard sent from the frontline at Loos and kept for a century by the family of a Black Watch soldier.
We have the latest in the move from Balado to Strathallan by T in the Park. And we watched in awe, then a touch of sadness, as a remarkable image took shape, then washed away, on the beaches of Fife.
As the World Cup rolls on, domestic matters have been focusing the minds of our sports team and we bring the latest transfer news from Dens and McDiarmid Parks.
We were all over Andy Murray’s latest match at Wimbledon too.
(*They also raised almost £400,000 for charity but that was clearly secondary to seeing their name in print).
