Vandals who attacked Better Together signs are trying to “intimidate” No voters, according to an MSP.
“No Thanks” signs put in place by Perth-based pro-Union campaigners have been targeted on the A90 between Perth and Dundee and daubed with graffiti since they were erected last week.
Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative representative Murdo Fraser slammed the louts behind the acts.
He said: “I just think it’s depressing. In a free, open, democratic society people should be allowed to express their preferences in a campaign.
“There are properties being stolen and damaged. This has been happening not just here but right across Scotland.
“It does look like a systematic attempt to silence the No side of the debate and to intimidate those who want to show their support for the No campaign.”
The campaign has been littered with claims of intimidation and threats made against people on both sides of the independence divide.
JK Rowling was subjected to online abuse after she donated £1 million to Better Together and publicly gave her backing for a No vote.
Death threats have also been made against First Minister Alex Salmond and other SNP MSPs have been victims of vandalism.
