Liberal Democrats want ‘affordable’ football tickets made available
ByKieran Andrews
Ten percent of football tickets should be made available at an “affordable” price, according to the Liberal Democrats.
The party has passed a wide-ranging motion at its annual conference in Glasgow, titled “Reclaiming the People’ Game”, which includes a call to make going to Premier League games in Scotland and England less of a strain on families’ budgets.
However, there is no clarity over what “affordable” actually means or how such a move would be enforced.
Tickets for Dundee United’s next home match range from a high of £21 to a low of £10, while under 12s can get access for £3 with a full paying adult.
Dundee FC’s next home game will set you back £20 full price or £10 for a concession, while St Johnstone FC charges a maximum of £23, with prices lower depending on age and under 12s allowed in free with an adult.
Local lower league teams such as Brechin City and East Fife charge around £10-£12 with special family deals also on offer.
