The Liberal Democrats have made “significant” progress over the last year but this could be undermined if Scots vote for independence in 2014, Scottish leader Willie Rennie said in his Christmas message.
He claimed Lib Dems have delivered a tax cut for low earners, a rise in pensions, rising employment in a stronger UK economy, continue to press the Scottish Government to improve early years education and back “home rule” over independence.
Mr Rennie said: “We’re building a stronger economy and a fairer society so that everyone can get a chance to get on. Without the Liberal Democrats this would not be happening.”
Meanwhile, Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont said: “We all look forward to Christmas because it brings out the best in us.
“But we are still a long way from having the better, fairer place we would want to live a place where people don’t have to rely on foodbanks and payday loans to get by at Christmas.
“A place where everyone gets to spend a happy, peaceful Christmas with their family.”
