Dunfermline and Rangers do business on transfer deadline day

Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre pulled off a major double signing swoop from Rangers before the transfer window shut.

Midfielder Kyle Hutton has joined the Pars on loan until the end of the season, while right-back Jordan McMillan has made a permanent move from Ibrox and put pen to paper on a 16-month deal at the club for an undisclosed fee.

With the Pars propping up the SPL, McIntyre had been desperate to bolster his squad. He had already brought in Mark Kerr last month and the midfielder produced a man-of-the-match performance against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday.

Dunfermline will be hoping the other recruits make a similar impact as they bid to avoid the drop.

Hutton, who also signed a one-year extension to his contract at Rangers, said: “I am looking forward to going to Dunfermline and getting regular football.”

McMillan is another whose chances have been limited at Ibrox and he has only played three times for Ally McCoist’s side this season, including the Scottish Cup victory over Arbroath.

The 23-year-old will fill the right-back berth left vacant by Jason Thomson after he returned to Hearts following his loan spell with the Pars.

Director of football Jim Leishman said: “These are two quality signings we have made. The manager has been working tirelessly to strengthen the squad.

“He tried to sign Jordan during the close season but it didn’t happen then. But I would just like to thank Rangers Football Club for allowing these deals to go through. The board also deserve great credit for putting their hands into their pockets to come up with the money to bring the players to the club.”

Centre-half John Potter, who joined Dunfermline from St Mirren in the summer, has been farmed out on loan to Queen of the South until the end of the season, with Leishman adding: ”Everyone at the club wishes John all the best.”
