Former Par Davie Graham relieved his immediate future has been worked out

Former Dunfermline favourite Davie Graham has admitted he feared he would be left on the football scrapheap after being axed by the Pars at the end of last season.

The 28-year-old was one of a host of experienced players released by East End Park boss Jim Jefferies as the Fife club cut back following relegation from the SPL.

Graham was snapped up earlier this week by Greenock Morton boss Allan Moore on a one-year deal and the player confessed he had concerns that he might have been joining the ranks of the long-term unemployed.

The ex-Stranraer, Gretna and Hamilton man said: ”It really is not a good time to be out of a job and I was thrilled and relieved when Allan made me an offer. I liked what he had to say.

”Everybody says to you ‘don’t worry, you will get something’ but until there is a concrete offer on the table you are always wondering what will come in, if anything.

”There are some good players out of a job at the moment because of the money situation, and I’m grateful to have got something sorted.

”You also want to stay full-time as long as you can, so to have that sorted at Morton is really pleasing.

”I’ve known Allan for a long time and he seems to like me as a player, all the way from my Stranraer days, so it makes a difference when you know the manager really rates you.”

Graham was an East End Park regular for 3 years and, while he is aware of the financial constraints at the club, he says it was dispiriting the way his time with the Pars ended.

He added: ”I was a wee bit disappointed that I didn’t get offered anything at Dunfermline. There was talk of people taking cuts, but I was not offered any sort of contract that I could accept or reject.

”But these things happen in football and it is the way of the world at the moment.”
