The ink is barely dry on his own new contract but Dundee United boss Peter Houston has already turned his attention to more signing business this time with some of his highly-prized players.
Houston put pen to paper on a new three-year deal earlier this week and is now looking to secure the long-term futures of Prince Buaben and Danny Swanson at Tannadice.
They have been an integral part of United’s recent success, with Swanson buckling down to produce a consistency of performance to complement his undoubted talent, while Buaben’s displays have seen him called up to the Ghana international squad.
The midfield duo’s contracts run out in 12 months, and Houston wants to extend their deals before predatory clubs start targeting the pair.
“I will now be speaking to the players about extending their contracts,” he said.
“I have already been in contact with Prince and Danny’s agents about increasing their stays and will be meeting them soon.”
Meanwhile, Houston has revealed that defender Paul Dixon will not need to undergo surgery to repair his broken foot.
The United gaffer hopes to have his first-choice left-back available for the start of the season as well as a new man in place to keep him on his toes.
“We do not know exactly when Paul will be fit again,” he added.
“He had a scan earlier this week and, while it showed that his foot is still broken, he does not need an operation. It is healing but we will still have to monitor it.
“The first thing I want is Paul back 100% and playing like he was before he broke his foot,” he said.
“If we get that I will be delighted but I still want to bring in another left-back.
“We have not really had anyone to challenge him since Danny Grainger left to join St Johnstone, and competition for places is important.”
