Montrose FC have called for supporters to “stand up and be counted.”
Following the recent resignation of chairman Brian Winton, the club’s directors have started planning the way forward.
Malcolm Watters, joint vice-chairman, said that when the club was taken over by Bryan Keith in 1990 he set about improving the ground and his legacy was a new stand with facilities that were superior to most in the lower leagues and the envy of some higher.
More recently when Kenny Black became the major shareholder, he used the generous gift from GlaxoSmithKline of £250,000 for a Montrose community facility towards the installation of an artificial pitch to FIFA two star standard.
“Their commitment and that of our recently departed chairman has left us with a base upon which we in Montrose must now build,” said Watters.
“What we have is an opportunity for the supporters in Montrose to take a more active role in taking the club forward to stand up and be counted.
“We are looking for fresh blood to become involved. Essential qualities would be commitment and vitality to rally support throughout the town.”
The club has been joined by a former player, Derek Sim, as an associate director with particular input on the commercial side.
Watters added, “If the enthusiasm he has already shown can be matched by that of the others whom we hope to have on board, the future should surely be brighter.”
