Brechin 1 Morton 1: McKinnon fury at penalty award
ByThe Courier Reporter
A hotly-disputed penalty decision was the main talking point after the Brechin City v Morton match which ended in a 1-1 draw.
With 53 minutes on the clock and the scores tied at 0-0, referee Euan Anderson awarded a penalty to the visitors after a Gary Fusco challenge on Morton striker Declan McManus.
The City players were incensed with the decision but the referee was quite adamant that it was a spot-kick, and it was duly converted by Ross Caldwell.
However, the penalty award clearly galvanised City and they laid siege to the Morton goal thereafter, which brought its reward 12 minutes from time when substitute Robert Thomson rose above the Morton defence to head home a cross from Bobby Barr.
City manager Ray McKinnon felt that the penalty award had cost his side three points.
“I don’t think there was any way it was a penalty and I was very disappointed with the referee’s decision,” he said.
