End in sight for season-sick Raith

The final whistle at Stark”s Park tomorrow will be music to the ears of the weariest players in Scottish football.

The Raith Rovers squad has been stretched to its limit during the season run-in, after being forced to play a gruelling set of fixtures in an incredibly short space of time.

They finally complete their punishing schedule at home to Ross County and, while there is little at stake barring pride, Raith manager John McGlynn has issued a rallying call to the Kirkcaldy club’s supporters to turn out in big numbers.

“There has been a huge demand placed on the players,” he said. “By the time we have played Ross County, we will have completed six games in 12 days something I have never heard of at this level of football.

“It would be a nice finish to the season if we could have lots of fans in the ground on Saturday.

“They have been magnificent this season and have followed us everywhere including to Peterhead, Aberdeen, Dundee and Hampden in the cup.

“So we would like as many of them as possible to turn up so we can thank them properly for their support.

“Equally, the players deserve a big pat on the back for staying in this league something which I believe was as big an achievement as winning promotion last year to get there.”

McGlynn would not be drawn on whether he had signed up any out-of-contract players for next season.

However, he would confirm he will be trying to increase his striking options.

“I feel we could do better in that department so I will be looking for a new striker or two in the summer,” he confirmed.

“But I believe that the players who are already here will have benefited from a season in the first division and will make an even greater impact next term.”
