St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes has once again praised his players for their efforts in ensuring the club is sitting clear of the SPL drop zone.
The Saints manager gave his thanks after witnessing first hand on Saturday a team dealing with the stress of battling to avoid relegation.
Saints came from behind to beat Jimmy Calderwood’s Kilmarnock, a result which leaves the Ayrshire club involved in a two-way fight for survival with Falkirk the side St Johnstone play tomorrow night.
“That is us four games unbeaten now and we have had to come from behind in all of them to get something,” he said.
“It is pleasing and it shows there is good character and resilience in the team. We may not have been at our best but we have managed to dig out results.
“We put in a good performance in the second half on Saturday. We have produced a lot of similar displays this season, which is the main reason we are not involved in the relegation issues.”
McInnes added, “We all know the consequences of dropping out of the league.
“We spent seven years looking in from the outside and were desperate to get back in.
“Now that we are there, we want to stay, like the two clubs fighting it out at the bottom, Kilmarnock and Falkirk. Both of them have it in their own hands to affect what happens.
“We are aware there will be a lot of tension on Wednesday but, from a St Johnstone point of view, we just want to finish the season strongly.”
Filipe Morais missed Saturday’s game because of swelling on his knee and he is rated doubtful for tomorrow.
