Brechin manager Jim Weir has said that a postponement would be an “absolute nightmare” for his threadbare squad.
Weir was hoping to give on-loan Hibs utility man Callum Booth his last outing for the club before he goes back to Easter Road after signing a four-and-a-half year contract with the Edinburgh side.
Playing Booth would also have eased the pressure on his small squad ahead of Tuesday’s third-round Scottish Cup replay at Galabank against Annan Athletic.
“It’s an absolute nightmare,” said Weir.
“We were hoping to get the last game out of Callum Booth because the squad is really thin.
“At the moment we’ve got 14 players that are first-team players.
“Now it looks like we’re going to be playing Saturday/Tuesday every week to get through the backlog.”
He added, “I’ll have to add a couple of new faces during the transfer window because that’s going to put pressure on the squad.”
Station Park gaffer Dick Campbell has no such squad problems with the weather-enforced lay-off, having given his men time to repair any niggles they may have had.
Campbell has desperately tried to keep his men in training for the eventual resumption of action, but like most other lower league managers has faced a scramble for training facilities.
“It’s a disastrous situation and it doesn’t look good,” he said.Loans’ successOn the squad front Campbell is well placed, including the availability of Dundee United youngster Dale Hilson, whose Station Park loan deal due to expire on Hogmanay has been extended until the end of the campaign.
Forfar have agreed with Rangers that goalkeeper Scott Gallacher can remain on loan to the Station Park club until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has established himself as the first choice since starting his first loan spell at the beginning of the season.
Campbell said, “My thanks go to Rangers for allowing the deal to continue. Scott has been excellent for us and hopefully that will continue to be the way until the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, Hibs manager Colin Calderwood has expressed his delight at Booth’s decision to sign a long-term contract.
Calderwood has heard good things about the youngster’s time with Brechin and believes he is very much one for the future.
He said, “Callum is a player who has impressed me on the training pitch and the feedback we have received about his performances for Brechin has been very positive.”
Booth is now hoping to reward the club’s faith in his ability by breaking into the first team.
He said, “I am hoping to make 2011 even better by making the breakthrough at first-team level.”
