Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn has hailed defender Mark Campbell as an “inspiration” for the way he has returned to the team following his injury hell.
Campbell’s goal and overall display in Rovers’ 2-1 derby win over Dunfermline on Sunday seemed to really mark his comeback following the horrific car crash, although it was his fifth appearance since the accident that occurred on the eve of last February’s memorable Scottish Cup replay win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
“No one should have to go through what Mark has gone through, with all the operations he has had, so to see him back at the heart of things is great,” said McGlynn.
“It is fair to say he is an inspiration to us all.
“I think it must have been easy for him to think at one stage that he would never return to full fitness and at times it did seem to be a case of taking one step forward and two back for him.
“Then, when he seemed ready, the other lads were doing so well that he had to wait his turn but such is his nature, he did that without a complaint.
“He has just played three games in a week and got a crucial goal for us against Dunfermline so he is really back in amongst it.
“Mark is showing again how much we have missed him and left me wondering what more we could have achieved last season had he not had the accident.”
