Montrose caretaker manager Ray Farningham said he won’t consider the prospect of taking on the role full-time until the end of the season.
The former Forfar boss will be assisted by goalkeeping coach Stuart Garden, following the departure of Steven Tweed on Saturday.
Farningham said Tweed’s decision had come as a shock and he had tried to convince him to stay until the end of the campaign.
Club chairman Derek Sim said discussions would be held with the temporary management duo at the end of the season.
He added, “We will talk to Ray to see if it something he wants to do more permanently and then take it from there.
“He has had plenty of experience and has been an excellent coach with the players, so we will be hoping he can manage to bring in one or two victories in the run up to the end of the season.”
He added that it had been an obvious choice for Farningham to take over the reins after Tweed announced his intentions to the players following the weekend’s defeat at Annan Athletic.
He said, “Steven was very much aware that his position with the Royal Bank of Scotland would be escalating within a number of weeks and he had already been away on certain courses down south.
“With being scheduled to go away again he just felt that with the combined responsibilities of being a part-time manager on a Tuesday or Thursday evening and obviously the Saturday commitment, he would struggle to fit it all in.”
Farningham’s first game in charge is tonight at Links Park, where Montrose take on East Stirling.
He said, “By all accounts East Stirling did really well against Arbroath for the first half, and in this league any of the teams are capable of beating the others.
“My philosophy is always to go out, get the ball down and attack to win the game.”
Meanwhile, although opponents East Stirling may have lost 10 of their last 11 games, there will be no throwing in the towel tonight.
Assistant coach David Nicholls said, “We will take heart from our first-half performance against Arbroath at the weekend when we were the better team and were unlucky to go in level.
“If we play like we did in that opening half we will win games between now and the end of the season.”
They welcome striker Stephen Maguire back to their squad from suspension however, Paul Weaver now drops out with a ban and youngster Craig Scott keeps his place in the squad after a goalscoring debut at the weekend.
Shire are hoping that defenders Craig Donaldson, Craig Tully, Dean Richardson and Darren Kelly can all be included despite carrying knocks.
